Coping with Autism at Home
Can you imagine living a life not being able to communicate effectively with other people? Can you imagine a life where you feel so frightened and so scared by anything and everything that you choose to escape in a world no one else knows? This is what people with Autism feels like.
Autism is a complex disorder that can be characterised by impaired development in communication, social interaction, and behaviour. The degree of autism from one child to another can range from mild to severe. Those with severe conditions may have grave intellectual disability and inability to function appropriately in virtually all settings.
Autistic children may feel more comfortable playing on their own and not interacting with others. Parents should understand that it is not the child’s lack of affection towards them, but it is just how Autism is. Children should be allowed to be on their own and not to be coerced in doing things that they do not want to.
