Antisocial
If you have watched the movie Silence of the Lambs, then you have seen a person diagnosed with a frightening antisocial personality. In the movie, Hollywood actor Anthony Hopkins portrayed a “cannibalistic notorious murderer.”
The antisocial personality disorder is a serious disorder characterized by being dramatic and impulsive. They don’t hold a high regard on their own safety or on the safety of other people around them. They don’t care harming themselves or others. These people have tendencies of self-damaging acts, like cutting themselves and suicidal attitudes. Usually, they also tend to put aside and even violate the rights of others with the violent way they act. They lack concern for others, which lead these people to harm them without even thinking. This behaviour can even start young and will proceed until the individual goes to adulthood.
There are several factors and causes that are said to lead into developing this antisocial personality disorder. A history of imprisonment, a long absence of a permanent work, an interrupted education, a bad bringing up of parents, or a loss of home can cause this disorder.
Individuals who have been known to have antisocial personality have features of manipulation, deceit and a helpless control of impulses. They find it hard to tolerate frustration and do not care about what the consequences of their actions will be. They also fail to form healthy relationships with other people and are cold at treating them.
Findings also show that men are more likely to develop antisocial personality disorder. Perhaps it can explain that women are more vocal with their emotions than men. Women are more expressive with their emotions and inner thoughts. Men, on the other hand, resort to other ways of expressing themselves, like in violence. Thus, the tendency of this to men is five times more possible than to women. And even a large percentage of people with antisocial personality disorder have a history of abusing substances, like illegal drugs or alcohol.
Among all the personality disorders, the antisocial personality disorder is one of the most common. That’s a fact!
